Boogie Woogie Is A Simple Yet Effective Cursed Technique

Boogie Woogie is a unique curse technique that isn't all that overpowered. When compared to many other powerful cursed techniques that fans have seen in JJK, this one is simply average at best. However, depending on how it is used, it can be the biggest weapon in combat that one could possess. Simply put, this innate technique that belongs to Todo allows him to swap the places of anyone and anything within a certain range with a clap of his hand if they possess a certain amount of cursed energy, by expending a certain amount of his own energy. That is all this cursed technique does. Todo first utilized it when he was introduced in JJK, and in the battle against Hanami, he made great use of it alongside Yuji. He was seen swapping his own place with Yuji's, and at the same time, swapping the place of Hanami with others as well. He can swap the places of inanimate objects, provided they are imbued with cursed energy, with himself or anyone else, or simply clap and not swap at all.

Yes, my cursed technique lets me trade places with someone else...Boogie Woogie!

Todo's technique is incredibly simple, but at the same time, the way he utilizes this power makes it a complex technique. The downsides of Boogie Woogie are very few, but it is limited in terms of range. It can't be expanded over large distances normally, and at the same time, Boogie Woogie can be adapted to once an individual studies the patterns using which Todo accesses this power. For instance, when Hanami fought against Todo and Yuji, they eventually started getting used to this cursed technique. Similarly, in Shibuya, where Todo used it in incredibly innovative ways, Mahito was able to predict how this technique would go in a few instances as well. Still, Todo can always pull a rabbit out of the hat and trick the target, regardless of how they think this technique will be used. It is its simplicity that makes it incredibly powerful.

How Todo Lost Boogie Woogie In Shibuya

Mahito's Incredible Strength Meant Todo Suffered A Great Loss In Shibuya

Todo was destined to become one of the strongest sorcerers in JJK, and this is the statement that was backed by Gojo himself. However, he ended up losing his cursed technique in Shibuya. This happened in his battle against Mahito, where the curse eventually succeeded in utilizing the powers of Idle Transfiguration against him. Todo's hand was affected by this cursed technique, which required him to chop it off immediately or suffer death.

An arm is merely a decoration. The act of applause is an acclamation of the soul!

Todo ended up chopping off his hand cleanly, and while he was able to activate Boogie Woogie for a while after that, by the end of the battle, Todo clearly mentioned that the cursed technique had died. He did not feel this cursed technique inside his body anymore, which is one of the reasons why Todo was not active in the story after that.

Gojo makes a comeback in JJK. Gojo vs Sukuna round 2 could start soon.

This was very sad for the fans, because it killed the potential of Todo, and at the same time, cut him out of the story, despite him being one of the most interesting characters. Of course, fans of the character always believed that Todo would return at some point later down the line, and that is precisely what happened in JJK chapter 259, where he made his grand return after Sukuna unleashed the power of Divine Flame inside of his domain to wipe out every single sign of life. Had it not been for Todo, all the sorcerers inside would have died.

Thankfully, there was only one casualty, which was Choso, who sacrificed his own life to save his brother, Yuji. All the others were successfully rescued by Todo, utilizing the power of Boogie Woogie. With that, his battle against Sukuna began. However, more importantly, fans were curious to know how exactly Todo got access to Boogie Woogie once again. At the same time, fans also know that Todo doesn't have his hand to clap anymore, which raises the question of how this technique is activated now. JJK 260 shows fans how Todo has managed to significantly upgrade Boogie Woogie, making it more dangerous than ever before.

Todo's Improved Boogie Woogie With A Vibraslap

Renewed Boogie Woogie Is Stronger Than Ever Before

In JJK chapter 260, it has now been made clear that Todo possesses a vibraslap prosthetic instead of his left hand. Fans were expecting Todo to have a prosthetic gun or a prosthetic hand under the wraps. However, instead, he has a vibraslab. This vibraslap has a metal piece inside a wooden box that vibrates upon internal collision and produces a unique sound. It is with each vibration of this vibraslap that Todo can now swap places. Essentially, Todo has crafted his technique to work in a way where he doesn't need to clap anymore to activate the technique. With each use of the vibraslap, he can essentially now swap up to 50 times in a single second, which makes this cursed technique truly extraordinary.

While this would have already made this technique dangerous, Todo actually imposed a Binding Vow on himself. Because of this Binding Vow, there is a limit on the number of switches relative to the number of collisions of the Vibraslap. In exchange, Todo can increase his range significantly as well as increase the number of targets that he can target for swaps with his cursed technique. It was because of this increase in range that he was able to help Yuta, and at the same time, save the sorcerers in the previous chapter from Sukuna's Divine Flame as well. Without this Binding Vow, Todo would not have been able to accomplish this magnificent feat.

If that didn't make this technique incredibly overpowered by itself, then Sukuna also mentioned that Todo might actually be able to swap the values for the maximum and the minimum number of swaps that he can do per collision of the vibraslap. Essentially, Sukuna himself confirmed that he cannot adapt Boogie Woogie, and that it is an impossible task to achieve. There is certainly more to come from Todo and fans can hope that he delivers yet again in the upcoming chapters of JJK and showcases the power of Boogie Woogie once more.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 261, is set to be May 26, 2024.
