ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Olivia Hudson
Oberlin, sophom*ore
The only athlete on this list to reach the podium three times at the state meet, Olivia Hudson had an incredible sophom*ore season. She followed in her brother Evan’s footsteps with a Division III state championship in the 400 after finishing sixth last year. After only qualifying in the 400 a year ago, Hudson’s presence didn’t go unnoticed this time competing in four events in Dayton. She finished sixth in the 200 while anchoring Oberlin’s 4×200 to fourth place. She also anchored the 4×400 that finished 17th. Both relay teams were comprised of all sophom*ores.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Sam Ulery, Avon
From start to finish, the Avon girls dominated all season long. Led by Ulery, the Eagles took home conference, district and regional titles, culminating in a fifth-place finish as a team at the Division I state meet. Rania Brown was team’s lone state champion in discus, and Bridget Bergen also finished third in the event. Kaitlyn Reese finished third in the 3,200 and anchored the 4×800 to a third-place finish as well. Sarah Connor (pole vault) and the Eagles’ 4×100 were the other state qualifiers.
